madagascar ... not so great. it had a few funny moments, but there were three (I believe) male crotch jokes, and those aren't appealing to me, so I didn't laugh. Even in animation, I don't like Ben Stiller. And you can only ... chuckle... at the giraffe getting maimed so many times. I actually liked Chris Rock in this. He was funny.
Thepeguins were weird but funny.

For something to happen again, it must happen once. Jack the Ripper opened the window for serial killers, and he made his mark on history. He killed six women, add one or two, in London during the late 1800s. Londoners were afraid to go outside when it was dark, and the taunting letters he sent to the police only added to their frustration. He was a psychopath dwelling in the worst parts of London, and he knew what he wanted to acheive.

"‘One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the Twentieth Century’" (Hughes Brothers). Jack the Ripper wrote these words and sent them to Inspector Frederick Abberline. He often wrote letters to Abberline to taunt him; he regarded Abberline with sarcastic respect by heading each letter with ‘Dear Boss.’ Whether Jack lived to see the twentieth century is an unknown fact. When the murders abruptly stopped, it was rumored that "... the murderer's brain gave way altogether after his awful glut in Miller's Court, and that he immediately committed suicide..." (Jack, 16). http://www.crimelibrary.com).The reason for the quick halt of the murders is still unknown, just like the identity of Jack himself.

The murders began on August 6, 1888 with Martha Tabran. ".... But the killer got enraged. He lost control" (Cornwell, 31). Jack the Ripper stabbed Martha thirty-nine times. "To stab someone thirty-nine times is overkill, and a frenzied overkill is usually prompted by an event or a word that sets off the killer in an unanticipated way" (31). Of course, Jack the Ripper had the intentions of killing the woman, but something did go wrong. "Psychopaths may go through dry runs to practice their modus operandi (MO) as they meticulously plan their actions in a manner that will insure success and evasion. Rehearsals can go on for years before the violent opening night, but no amount of practice or attention to strategy can guarantee that the performance will be flawless. Mistakes happen, especially on opening night..." (28-29). Several theories as to what set Jack off have come up, and they are all possible. We will never know why Jack decided to stab her so many times. It was an amateur mistake, but it was only his first murder. He would grow over time into something much more monstrous. When the body was found, the Constable sent for a doctor. Dr. T. R. Killeen arrived at the scene and came to the conclusion that Martha had been dead for approximately three hours. Dr. Killeen’s report is practically useless by today’s standards. "... Dr. Killeen’s report tells us so little that we don’t know if the weapon was double- or single-edged" (35). Martha is sometimes debated as not being one of the Ripper’s victims. She is often considered to be the first victim; it is still widely argued though.

"‘Poor Polly’" (West, 24). Mary ‘Polly’ Walker was Jack the Ripper’s second victim. Jack murdered her on August 31, 1888. She was said to be selling her prized bonnet so she would have money for a bed later that night. She was cut up but not dissected and she still had all of her organs. "There were no injuries about the body until just about the lower part of the abdomen. Two or three inches from the left side was a wound running in a jagged manner" (Mary, 7). Polly might have bitten her tongue during the struggle; she was nearly decapitated as well.

"... there was a slight laceration of the tongue. There was a bruise running along the lower part of the jaw on the right side of the face. That might have been caused by a blow from a fist or pressure from a thumb. There was a circular bruise on the left side of the face which also might have been inflicted by the pressure of the fingers. On the left side of the neck, about 1 in. below the jaw, there was an incision about 4 in. in length, and ran from a point immediately below the ear. On the same side, but an inch below, and commencing about 1 in. in front of it, was a circular incision, which terminated at a point about 3 in. below the right jaw. That incision completely severed all the tissues down to the vertebrae. The large vessels of the neck on both sides were severed. The incision was about 8 in. in length. the cuts must have been caused by a long-bladed knife, moderately sharp, and used with great violence" (Mary, 7)

Polly was transported to the ‘dead house’ by the means of a cruel cart that a constable pulled. "... Unwieldy wooden -sided handcarts with its lashed- in sturdy black leather bottom that was equipped with thick leather straps" (Cornwell, 90). Mary’s head probably "... lolled from side to side while the big wheels bounced and her dripping blood speckled the streets" (91).

Annie ‘Dark Annie’ Chapman became the Ripper’s third victim on September 8, 1888. She was forty-eight years old. Annie had been in the infirmary, but she asked the manager of the building she stayed in to hold a bed for her while she went to earn her keep. She was killed later that evening. Her face was swollen and her tongue was sticking out, which meant she had been strangled. After suffocation, Jack began his work with a post mortem knife.

"The incisions in the throat indicated that they had been made from the left side of the neck. There were two distinct cuts, parallel to each other, and about half an inch apart. From the way the muscles had tried to cut through the spine and take off the head.

‘The abdomen had been entirely laid open and the intestines severed from their mesenteric attachments which had been lifted out and placed on the shoulder of the corpse; whilst from the pelvis, the uterus and its appendages with the upper portion of the vagina and the posterior two-thirds of the bladder had been enitrely removed. Obviously the work was that of an expert- or one, at least, who had such knowledge of anatomical or pathological examinations as to be enabled to secure the pelvic organs with one sweep of the knife’" (Rumbelow, 32).

September 30, 1888 was not Elizabeth Stride’s lucky day. She became the fourth victim of Jack. During her murder, Jack was interrupted by a pony cart. Her throat was slashed. "Blood flowed from her neck toward the clubhouse door, and the top bottons of her jacket were undone, revealing her chemise and stays. She was on her left side, her face toward the wall, her face toward the wall, her dress soaking wet from recent hard rains" (Cornwell, 224). The socialist club inside the nearby building did not hear a scream. "No one heard a scream or any other call of distress. But Elizabeth Stride probably didn’t make a sound that anyone but her killer could hear" ( 224-225).

Being interrupted when doing business is a rather large pet peeve of any human. One can only imagine how infuriated Jack was when his ‘business’ was halted by a pony cart. He was angry, and Catherine Eddowes would be the one to pay. From where Elizabeth Stride had been killed to Catherine Eddowes place of murder would have been close to a fifteen minute walk for Jack. He was probably in a frenzy while killing Catherine and it was also extremely dark. "... Woman lying on her back, her face to the left, her arms by her sides with the palms turned up. Her left leg was straight, the other bent, and her clothes were bunched up above her chest, exposing her abdomen, which had been cut open from just below the sternum to her genitals. Her intestines had been pulled out and tossed on the ground above her right shoulder" ( 237). The doctor who had been called to the scene said that the intestines were placed where they were for a design. This is unlikely; Jack could barely see what he was doing. "He was probably squatting or bent over the lower part of the victim’s body when he slashed and tore through clothing and flesh, and it is more likely that he simply tossed the organs out of the way because it was certain organs he wanted" ( 238). Jack’s confidence had increased; the site of the murder was in a spot that a policeman passed at least every fifteen minutes. He also seemed to have a need to outdo himself so he could shock London even more. "Her left kidney was removed and taken, and half of her uterus was sloppily cut off and taken as well" (239). Jack sent the kidney to Mr. Lusk, the Chairman of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee; the address on the envelope said ‘From Hell.’

Mary Jane Kelly is considered the Ripper’s final victim; he attacked her on November 8, 1888. She certainty is the most unfortunate. She was completely mutilated beyond recognition; she was found practically in pieces. Doctor Thomas Bond a difficult report to write.

"The body was lying naked in the middle of the bed, the shoulders flat but the axis of the body inclined to the left side of the bed. The head was turned on the left cheek. The left arm was close to the body with the forearm flexed at a right angle and lying across the abdomen.

The right arm was slightly abducted from the body and rested on the mattress. The elbow was bent, the forearm supine with the fingers clenched. The legs were wide apart, the left thigh at right angles to the trunk and the right forming an obtuse angle with the pubes.

The whole of the surface of the abdomen and thighs was removed and the abdominal cavity emptied of its viscera. The breasts were cut off, the arms mutilated by several jagged wounds and the face hacked beyond recognition of the features. The tissues of the neck were severed all round down to the bone.

The viscera were found in various parts viz: the uterus and kidneys with one breast under the head, the other breast by the right foot, the liver between the feet, the intestines by the right side and the spleen by the left side of the body. The flaps removed from the abdomen and thighs were on a table.

The bed clothing at the right corner was saturated with blood, and on the floor beneath was a pool of blood covering about two feet square. The wall by the right side of the bed and in a line with the neck was marked by blood which had struck it in a number of separate splashes.

The face was gashed in all directions, the nose, cheeks, eyebrows, and ears being partly removed. The lips were blanched and cut by several incisions running obliquely down to the chin. There were also numerous cuts extending irregularly across all the features.

The neck was cut through the skin and other tissues right down to the vertebrae, the fifth and sixth being deeply notched. The skin cuts in the front of the neck showed distinct ecchymosis. The air passage was cut at the lower part of the larynx through the cricoid cartilage.

Both breasts were more or less removed by circular incisions, the muscle down to the ribs being attached to the breasts. The intercostal between the fourth, fifth, and sixth ribs were cut through and the contents of the thorax visible through the openings.

The skin and tissues of the abdomen from the costal arch to the pubes were removed in three large flaps. The right thigh was denuded in front to the bone, the flap of skin, including the external organs of generation, and part of the right buttock. The left thigh was stripped of skin fascia, and muscles as far as the knee.

The left calf showed a long gash through skin and tissues to the deep muscles and reaching from the knee to five inches above the ankle. Both arms and forearms had extensive jagged wounds.

The right thumb showed a small superficial incision about one inch long, with extravasation of blood in the skin, and there were several abrasions on the back of the hand moreover showing the same condition.

On opening the thorax it was found that the right lung was minimally adherent by old firm adhesions. The lower part of the lung was broken and torn away. The left lung was intact. It was adherent at the apex and there were a few adhesions over the side. In the substances of the lung there were several nodules of consolidation.

The pericardium was open below and the heart absent. In the abdominal cavity there was some partly digested food of fish and potatoes, and similar food was found in the remains of the stomach attached to the intestines" (Kelly, 8).

Mary Kelly was the anomaly that did not follow Jack’s usual routine. He usually killed brunette prostitutes who were in their late thirties or forties. Mary Kelly was only twenty-five years old. She also had dirty blonde hair. Mary was reasonably educated and very pretty girl from Ireland. No one wanted to go inside of her room when she was murdered. "‘It looked more like the work of a devil than a man,’ McCarthy would later recount at the inquest. ‘I had heard of the Whitechapel murders but I swear to God I had never expected to see such a sight as this’" (Cornwell, 345). The damage was said look as if she was run over by a train. "She had no features left" (346). The only organ the Ripper spared was her brain; it was still inside of her head. "The Ripper took Mary Kelly’s heart..." (349).

"A psychopath intent on murder uses any means to con a victim out of life. Eliciting trust before the kill is part of the psychopath’s script, and this requires acting, whether the person has ever stepped on a stage or not. When one has seen a psychopath’s victims, alive or dead, it is hard to call such an offender a person. To begin to understand Jack the Ripper, one must understand psychopaths, and to understand is not necessarily to accept. What these people do is foreign to every fantasy and feeling most of us have ever experienced. All people have the capacity for evil, but psychopaths are not like all of us" (26).

Jack the Ripper was psychotic; he enjoyed mutilating women. "They have no concept of guilt. They do not have a conscience" (27). The people closest to Jack probably did not know he was the Ripper.

"... Psychopaths do not exhibit normal human feelings and are a small percentage of the population who are responsible for a large percentage of crime. These people are extraordinarily cunning and lead double lives. Those closest ti them usually have no idea that behind the charming mask there is a monster who does not reveal himself until- as the Ripper did- right before he attacks" (29).

It is hard to understand how someone could do what Jack did. Anyone with a heart and soul should not be able to perform tasks like the Ripper did.

"Psychopaths are not capable of love. When they show what appears to be regret, sadness, or sorrow, these expressions are manipulative and originate from their own needs and not out of any genuine consideration for another creature. Psychopaths are often attractive, charismatic, and above average in intelligence. While they are given to impulse, they are organized in the planning and execution of their crimes. There is no cure" (29).

"It will be seen from the foregoing that this is a mystery, when stripped of its fictional trappings, which provides all the raw material the imaginative writer or armchair detective could hope for. So popular is the subject that meticulous and scholarly research is carried out on the background of all the characters named in the story. Detailed plans are drawn and Victorian census returns and post office directories are consulted. The newspapers of the time are trawled for every scrap of information. Every minor detail revealed and added is hailed as a major triumph of research, sometimes even justifying a book" (Panic, 1)

Jack’s identity stills remains a mystery, but a list with various items of information has been accumulated. "Jack was probably a white male who was an average height. He was between the ages 20 and 40. He did not dress as a laborer or indigent poor. He had lodgings in the East End. He did have medical expertise, despite 1-2 opinions to contrary. He may have been a foreigner. He was right-handed. He had a regular job since all the murders were on weekends. He was probably single so that he could roam the streets at all hours" (Jack, 1).

Jack the Ripper is considered the first serial killer. Without a doubt, he is definitely the most well-known murderer. He has been shown in different lights in movies, books, and even Broadway musicals. The Ripper scared London for three months and caused the police humiliation and grief. In modern times, Jack has several tours in the dusky London nights. He even had someone copy him. In the 1960s, Jack the Stripper killed six London prostitutes; he was never caught. No one knows who the Ripper is, despite what they may say. There are always suspects, but no one truly knows who the Ripper was. The forensic sciences can hardly be used, the facts have been skewed, the media has conformed Jack into something he’s not, and too much time has passed. Jack’s reign is over, but his legend continues. Jack the Ripper is a name that can catch anyone’s attention and make them ponder for a brief moment about history.
